• Cheap, synchronous, inter-PE communication is a key benefit of SIMD
• Two basic flavors:
  • Neighbor-based
    (e.g., like MasPar xnet)
  • Router-based, "random"
    (e.g., like MasPar router)
• x[y] is inefficient without hardware support... HP MAX has a Permute instruction
